In the Hundred Acre Wood, Pooh has a very specific place where he goes when he needs to do some “thinking.” He calls it his Thoughtful Spot.
In our busy, modern lives, we often forget to carve out a spot like that for ourselves. Weāre so busy doing that we forget to spend time just being.
Following up on last weekās affirmation stickers, I wanted to invite you to create your own “Thoughtful Spot”, a mindful corner of your own this week. It doesnāt have to be a fancy office or a quiet forestāit could be a favorite chair, a corner of the garden, or even just the first five minutes in your car before you head into the house.
You might wonder why Iām so drawn to the Wisdom of the Hundred Acre Wood. It started when my worldāonce large and filled with the rush of college, a first job, and friendsāsuddenly became very small.
At twenty years old, I learned my kidneys were failing. I went from being a carefree student to someone whose days were measured by doctorās appointments and a soul-crushing exhaustion. We thought we had time, but one morning, the clock ran out. I woke up unable to walk more than two steps without gasping for air. My body was so swollen I couldn’t fit into my shoes.
That day, I was admitted to the hospital to begin dialysis. I was terrified, overwhelmed, and grieving the life I thought I was supposed to have.
In the midst of that fear, a kind social worker began visiting me. One day, she handed me a book: The Tao of Pooh. As I read, Pooh and his friends became more than just childhood characters; they became my anchors. Their simple, grounded wisdom taught me how to find peace when everything felt chaotic.
That girl was me. And while my story has a beautiful ‘happy ending’āthanks to my mother, who gave me the gift of life through a kidney donationāthe lessons I learned in that hospital bed stayed with me. I now have a wonderful husband and three children, and my mother is still my hero. But it was in those quiet, scary moments that I learned the value of a ‘Thoughtful Spot.’ I want to share that same sense of peace with you.
On the blog today, Iām sharing 5 “Classic Pooh” Journaling Prompts to help you find some quiet clarity. Weāre diving into questions like:
- The Eeyore Reflection: What is one “gloomy” thought you can let go of today?
- The Piglet Courage: What is a “very small thing” you did recently that actually took a lot of bravery?
- The Pooh Wisdom: If you were sitting on a log with a friend today, what is the kindest thing you could say to them?
